Giants are frontrunners to acquire No. 1 pick after failing to land Matthew Stafford

The New York Giants promised to “look under every rock” to address the quarterback position during the 2025 NFL offseason. They appear to be following through. After swinging and missing on a potential trade for the Los Angeles Rams’ Matthew Stafford, the Giants are now a frontrunner to acquire the No. 1 overall pick in the draft from the Tennessee Titans, according to ESPN.

According to the report, multiple NFL executives left recent meetings with the Giants convinced a trade with the Titans was “likely,” with Miami quarterback Cam Ward the team’s anticipated target. New York, which currently holds the No. 3 pick, has also met with Colorado prospect Shedeur Sanders, another projected first-rounder, but one source told ESPN the Giants’ “consistent scouting of Sanders [is] a smokescreen.”

With or without a blockbuster move to the top of the draft, the Giants are also expected to be in the market for an experienced signal-caller to open 2025 as the starter. Aaron Rodgers is one option, per ESPN, but impending free agents Sam Darnold and Russell Wilson are also believed to be near the top of the Giants’ wish list. Both Darnold and Wilson previously drew interest from the team ahead of the 2024 season.

The NRL said it would not be investigating the matter any further as the Raiders return to Australia to continue their season.

Manoa, a defensive lineman, went undrafted in 2024 and spent his rookie season on the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad. Prior to that, Manoa entered college as a four-star recruit, per the 247Sports ratings.

Manoa played five seasons of college football. He spent his first four years at UCLA before finishing his collegiate career at Arizona. In that time, Manoa totaled 43 tackles with 4.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.

How this incident will impact Manoa’s NFL career remains to be seen. The Raiders have not yet addressed the incident publicly.

Jets grant Allen Lazard permission to seek trade ahead of Aaron Rodgers’ exit, per report

Aaron Rodgers isn’t the only former Green Bay Packers standout set to leave the New York Jets. Weeks after the quarterback’s exit was telegraphed by the team, the Jets have also granted wide receiver Allen Lazard, a longtime Rodgers companion, permission to seek a trade, as ESPN reported Tuesday.

Signed to a four-year, $44 million contract in 2023, roughly a month before Rodgers’ own arrival via trade, Lazard appeared in just seven games during the 2024 season thanks to a chest injury. He’s still owed about $28 million on his deal, per Over the Cap, but the Jets could instantly save $6.6 million against the 2025 salary cap by trading Lazard. They could also get the same savings by outright releasing the receiver.

The 29-year-old wideout provided an occasional big-play spark when targeted, averaging almost 14 yards per catch and scoring five times in 2024. He also missed multiple games in 2023, however, finishing his first Jets season with just 23 catches for 311 yards and one touchdown. Prior to joining New York, Lazard spent his first five NFL seasons with Rodgers and the Packers, peaking with 60 catches for 788 yards in 2022.
